Arti’s Story: Separation Anxiety and Medical Challenges

Meet Arti, the cavapoo who couldn’t be left alone

Arti’s owner had him since he was a puppy, but from the very start, he struggled with being left alone.

Even at night, he couldn’t sleep independently and would become restless and distressed.

Whenever left alone, Arti would:

  • Pant excessively

  • Howl and bark for hours

  • Pace nervously around the house

At first, his owner hoped he would grow out of it, but the reality was far more challenging.

The Challenges Arti’s Owner Faced

Living with a dog with separation anxiety is exhausting, not just for the dog, but for the owner, too.

For Arti’s owner, simple daily tasks became impossible. She couldn’t even leave for a short trip without worrying about:

  • How much distress Arti would be in

  • Whether his pacing and howling would upset the neighbours

  • The toll his anxiety was taking on his well-being

  • The lack of sleep she was getting due to his night-time distress

The emotional toll was huge.

She wanted Arti to be happy and confident but had no idea how to help him.

Finding Help with Dog Separation Anxiety Training

After struggling for months, Arti’s owner knew she needed professional guidance.

She reached out to us, JGBehaviour - Dog Separation Anxiety Training and booked a free consultation with me, Jodie, a SA specialists.

In our consultation, we took a deep dive into Arti’s case and discovered something important:

His separation anxiety was linked to underlying medical issues.

His sensitive tummy, allergies, and joint pain were making him even more anxious.

By working closely, we tackled his medical issues alongside his training. A personalised training plan was created that:

  • Focused on gradual exposure to being alone

  • Addressed his need for comfort at night

  • Helped reduce his reliance on constant human presence

  • Ensured his medical needs were met

With ongoing support, daily training plans, and adjustments based on his progress, we started seeing big changes in Arti’s ability to cope alone.

Where Arti is Now: A More Confident, Happy Dog

Fast forward to today, and Arti’s transformation has been incredible.

From a dog who couldn’t be left at all, day or night, he can now comfortably be left alone for up to four hours.

Even more importantly, his owner can now enjoy daily life without the stress and guilt that came with his previous anxiety.

She’s even getting a good night’s sleep again!

Here’s a video from Anna, Arti’s owner.

Could You and Your Dog Experience the Same Transformation?

If your dog struggles with separation anxiety, there could be an underlying cause you’re missing, just like with Arti.

Many dogs suffer from discomfort, pain, or medical conditions that make their anxiety even worse.

If your dog has existing health issues, or you suspect they do, this might be a big factor in their behaviour.

With the right support, you can address both their physical and emotional needs.
